Used Truck Affordability and the F-150 Trend Motor1 Coverage

June 17, 2026

Motor1 reported that a 2014 Ford F-150 with 90,000 miles sold after 15 minutes on the lot, the fastest turnaround the dealership has seen.

An 18-year-old and his family pulled onto the lot and spotted the truck almost immediately. Within minutes, it was sold. However, this story isn’t just about one fast sale. It reflects something much bigger happening across the used vehicle market.

“This isn’t Americans walking away from all their trucks and SUVs and falling back in love with the sedan. This trend is really spurred by affordability and the challenges Americans face with car payments.”- Brian Gordon, President of Dave Cantin Group

This trend is really spurred by affordability and the challenges Americans face with car payments.

Surveys show fewer buyers intend to purchase full-size trucks, with more gravitating toward smaller, less expensive vehicles. Ford F-Series sales were up 24.5% through the first quarter of 2025.

Furthermore, 2024 was Ford’s best F-Series year since before COVID.

As a result, the market is being selective. Used-truck affordability is a key factor in which vehicles move quickly and which sit.

The F-150 remains America’s best-selling vehicle. Motor1 reported that Ford sold more than 765,000 F-150s in 2024 and is on pace to match that number in 2025. Moreover, the truck topped sales charts in 13 states, including Texas, Michigan, and Montana.

For dealers, used truck affordability is an opportunity to capitalize on. Well-priced, well-maintained used trucks are moving faster than ever preoven in 15 minutes.
